Taraba Killings: Police Launch Hashtag Campaign Against Army
Police launched hashtag campaign against army over the death of three policemen caused by soldiers in Taraba State.
On Wednesday, Police announced that officers from the Intelligence Response Team who were taking Alhaji Hamisu Wadume, a kidnap kingpin to the Command Headquarters in Jalingo were attacked by soldiers.
They reported that the police officers were shot dear while the suspect was set free, but the army rebuff the claim immediately saying that the policemen were mistaken for kidnappers.
Although a joint investigation panel was set up by the police and the army over the incident, police eventually went ahead to launch two hashtags to demand for explicit explanations concerning the killings.
#ProvideAnswersNigerianArmy was launched late Thursday while #WhereIsEspiritDCorp was launched after the identities of the slain officers were revealed.
The police demand for explanation on why Wadume was released and not taken to the army base for debriefing if he is truly a victim of kidnap. They also demand the army to produce the suspected kidnappers.
Nigerians are disappointed over the incident, calling it a show of shame by the country’s security agencies.
